TOPIC: Getting the information you need via interview, and a practical experiment in achieving good sound quality.
CLASS EXERCISE: In groups of 2 to 4 (maximum), determine an idea for a vox pop. You will need to conduct a bit of research before you write your questions. Each person in your group should have a role, i.e. be the interviewer, the videographer, the sound person, or the talent scout (I’ll explain in class). You’ll have more fun (and learn more) if you swap roles during the exercise 😉 Some notes on vox pops – what they are and why we do them. Some vox pop examples:
- The super-retro (but very good) Andrew L. Urban, who interviews strangers in the street for the SBS series Front Up
- A series of vox pops from ex-Hungry Beaster Kirk Docker’s Vimeo channel
- A vox pop made by Emma Davies, a student at UOW
